+I have an awful listening capacity. Very Very Poor. Whether it is in class, or in church (particularly in church, despite having a pastor gifted in speaking), or even listening to my friends when they speak for extended periods of time, my attention starts to wane.
I was reading (not listening) to a commentary by Piper called, How to Hear the Word of God. It talks about the parable of the soils (Luke 8:12-15) and the importance of how we hear. I feel very convicted about his second point on this,
““. . . and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.” The first three ways of hearing are deceived. They “think” they have the word, but they don’t. And even this illusion will be destroyed some day: “What he thinks that he has will be taken away.”
+Also, I listened the sermon, Unlimited Limited Atonement (by Mark Driscoll, recommended by Peter Eddy). I think I agree with that. maybe? But it still leaves God choosing who will go to hell, despite their lives being blessed by the cross. Hell lasts eternity. That seems to make what happened in their life…almost a moot point (I’m not sure I am using that phrase correctly). I don’t like this answer I’m finding. Even though I used to affirm it. I still may end up affirming it.
On the upside…then I can trust God is sovereign when I pray, and that he won’t just step aside and say, no, it is up to their dead hearts to decide to chose me. (even the idea of God saying that is very distasteful). (to me).
Maybe I will start to try to not think about it.

Justin Taylor posted on RC Sproul and Dan Wallace. The post will hit you on two counts. Hope it puts this in perspective.
Truth is tough. Either way, unbelievers are going to hell. This sucks. I agree with what Margie quoted you on your other post. We need to grieve people suffering in hell. It's tough when God tells us to take up our cross. We'll struggle with many aspects of Christianity, the cross He gives us, the doctrine He calls us to believe. Don't give up! God is absolutely sovereign.
Thanks Pete- I found that post very useful and rallying. I really appreciate it.
You're welcome.
A random thought just came to mind, why are there no polka dots on your blog?
