I remember in grade 5 (or maybe it was 7?) in gym class, volleyball teams were being picked. I was not looking forward to it at all, as we were being chosen through team captains and 1 was a boy and 1 was a girl and the girl wasn’t my friend. And I wasn’t good at volleyball. I was certain I was going to be last.
But to my surprise I was picked first on the boy’s team! (To be clear, the first pick had to be an individual of the opposite gender). I was genuinely pleased (Initially I thought ecstatic, but again this was for playing volley ball, the world’s worst sport).
Today I got an email from a classmate asking if I would like to be part of their group project for a course we have together this term. It is like I am reliving grade 5 or 7 all over again. Yay.

Did you unlearn how to play volleyball in highschool?

I remember this one time in grade 5 when teams were being picked to play soccer. I too was chosen first, also by a boy. But about 2 seconds before he chose me, I saw the teacher go up to him and whisper something in his ear. I assume it was "please pick someone that isn't good - so that they will feel better". The teacher also whispered, I assume the same thing into the other team captain's ear, and he also chose someone small and bad at soccer.
I hate playing sports.
When I was in grade 7, I was the last to be picked for basketball during gym class. To their surprise (and to mine) however, I actually scored a basket. It was a great feeling and I felt thoroughly vindicated for being picked last.
